Botanical abstractions is inspired by the pond on our property. It’s an interpretation of the roots and weeds that grow in the water and the living flotsam that floats on the surface. Figuratively it plays with what’s above and what’s below the surface of the water.
This series is a direct marriage of the two mediums that I toggle back and forth within my work - photography, and painting.
My photographic work focuses on organic minutia delivered in large format black and white pigment prints and the Botanical Abstractions series incorporates elements of my photography as source material along with oil paint and collaged elements of previous paintings within the same theme.
