Carol Patricia Paquet is a South African artist living in California since 2003. A student of William Kentridge in printmaking, she brings a bold graphic sensibility to new paintings in 2025. Imbued with a sense of displacement, her botanical landscapes bridge digital and plein air research. Paquet displaces photomontage into a seductive matrix: screen-like ephemera and lush passages of paint remix in canvases that recall the nature morte /still life paintings of the Dutch masters. Her site of inspiration is Willow Pond, adjacent to her studio in the rural central coast. The seasonal transformation of plant life, including cycles of decay, decomposition, growth, and renewal, become, in her work, scenes of both strangeness and homecoming.
